Finding Normal: Working Title

>

Tomorrow morning I am heading home to Michigan for three weeks.  I am finally getting a vacation.  I am going to head up to our cabin, lounge around and write.  Actually, I have been told by my Hot Dog that I have to write–that is my assignment, that is what I owe him.  He said that when he met me 10 years ago, I was a young woman fresh out of college who was an aspiring writer.  During graduations, we used to talk about possible book titles and I was often found sitting off by myself, writing.  He wanted to know what happened to that young woman he knew.  It’s been 10 years, where are all of the books that I had planned on writing?  I told him life happened and . . . but he stopped me.  He told me to stop making excuses and get back to doing what I love.  How could I argue with that?

Lately, my Hot Dog and I have been going on hikes, giving us the opportunity to talk about everything under the sun.  Yesterday, while hiking, he made the decision that I need to write again and he won’t accept any of my excuses.  He said that I need to look at the opportunities that I am presented as a teacher–I have a 2 month summer vacation that gives me plenty of time to focus on what I really want to do with my life–write.  I told him about this blog and he said that isn’t good enough.  He thinks I should write a “Chick Lit” book.  And as we walked and talked, he told me that I should start with a working title of “Finding Normal.”  Eventually he thought the title was too pretentious but it is still a good starting point.

So there you have it.  Decision made.  My mission for the next three weeks is to start writing again.  I’m starting with a novella, working title “Finding Normal.”  Stay tuned to see how it works out.
