Lunar Inspiration

Full Moon January 9, 2012

On January 9th, I was completely inspired when I saw the Full Moon rising over the San Gabriel Mountains as I drove up my driveway.  For the first time in a while, I was excited about taking photos of this celestial event–the first Full Moon of 2012, the Cancer Moon (or Cold Moon).  I ran inside to get my camera and immediately went out to my balcony to take as many photos of the full moon as I could.

Since I became a photography teacher, my passion for photography has dwindled.  I have been a professional photographer for almost 12 years now.  But the last four years had me focused on the aspects of “teaching” rather than improving my own photography skills.  It takes quite a bit to inspire me these days.  And thankfully, the Cancer Moon provided me with the inspiration I so badly needed.

Of course, as I sit here in my fairly new home, in my office that has an amazing view of Mt. Wilson, I am inspired by what I see.  Mt. Wilson was home to Hubble and Einstein.  I remember going up there with my honorary Aunt and Uncle and walking the same path as these brilliant men.  And now, here I am with a daily reminder.

So maybe it isn’t just the Moon that inspires me, it is also my new home and just the new year in general.  I can look out at Mt. Wilson, as well as the amazing views I get of the skies above from my own backyard, and see all the possibilities coming into my life.  It’s going to be a good year!
